In Sanskrit, Alambana means support and we at Alambana Foundation provide financial support to indigent students in India irrespective of region, religion, caste, age or gender. Alambana was founded by a group of highly motivated people and our operations are funded by donations. We also have a band of volunteers with tremendous dedication to our mission.
First, we support the education of needy students in a distinct way. The money is not handed over to directly to students or their guardians, but instead, is used to pay for school fees, boarding, uniform and books.
Second, we identify disadvantaged students in a unique way. We have a crew of volunteers based in different regions in India who scout for needy students in their regions. These volunteers are responsible for identifying needy students, aiding them in filling out application forms, and ensuring that quality checks are carried out and records are kept for the students. Volunteers interface with board members who allocate money for primary, middle school, secondary, college and vocational students.
Finally, we sustain our support for poor students in a unique way. Donations from the founders was used as a seed fund and the interest generated from it is being disbursed as scholarships. In the future, incoming donations greater than $1000 will be deposited into the seed fund while donations less than or equal to $1000 will directly support needy students for the next academic year.
Our mission is to provide access to education to financially disadvantaged students in order to transform their lives. By empowering disadvantaged individuals, we hope to help close the socio-economic gap in India, creating a more just and united society.
We currently offer two programs:
Any student is eligible for scholarship. Students will not be discriminated against based on the basis of their gender, religion, caste or region in India.
Money will not be given directly to students. Instead the aid is provided through the following:
Every application (for scholarship) will be verified and cross-checked in-person by a volunteer of Alambana Foundation.
The organization is highly driven by volunteers. After the initial verification (as part of selection process), volunteers of Alambana will re-investigate after six months of issuing the scholarships. Also to re-ensure that the funds are used properly, volunteers may also perform surprise unannounced checks. The scholarships granted is only for one year unless the student re-applies and is selected again. Annually there will be two inspections. The scholarships continue only if the students maintain good grades. For any school or institution that misuses the funds for unauthorized purposes; the whole institution will be black listed and the students from those institutions will not be eligible to apply.
Regarding the support to schools towards vocational training, there will be at least four field investigations annually. Alambana checks out the number of students being helped. The funding again will be yearly. If less than 50% of the school population is properly trained (students are able to display their art work cloth stitching, toys making, pottery making etc.) then the support will be discontinued. Alambana expects the student in the vocational training program to display their work every year. Photographs of the students and their projects will be taken by the Alambana volunteers and archived.
Alambana Foundation strives for very low maintenance ( < 0.5% of the total amount to be distributed ). Most
of the administration expenses would be for stationary, website maintenance and database backup.
All the information, for example: records of students, reports, pictures and scholarship-info will be electronically
archived and the database will be regularly backed up. Alambana accounts will be handled by experienced auditors
(also volunteers).

Every application (for scholarship) will be verified and cross-checked in person by a volunteer of Alambana Foundation.
The application does not contain information about the region or caste of the applicant. Once an application is received, it is tagged with a number for further processing. The selection committee therefore does not know the gender, caste, religion or region of the applicant.
Applications are available through our website here (Acrobat reader required, click here to download.) Some applications will also be sent to various schools.
Completed application should be sent through Indian Postal Service (not through courier services). Please refer to "Contact Us" page for postal address.
Complete applications should be received between May 1st and July 31st of each academic year. Applications received before or after the above dates will not be considered.
Each successful applicant will be informed individually by mail. The full list of recipients will also be posted online.
Every application must be endorsed by the principal or head of the institution to verify that the applicant is eligible for the scholarship based on merit and need.
V. G. Engg. from NIIT, Warangal
Alambana India has been supporting me since my 10th standard. At present I'm studying my B.Tech. in BIOTECHNOLOGY at NIT, Warangal. Alambana foundation has paid my school fee, college fee and hostel fee too. They even provided me material for GRE preparation". My father was an auto driver and my mother is home maker and I have two younger sisters. It was too hard for my parents to afford for our studies until Alambana India started supporting me for my education. If it wasn't for Alambana I might not be there where I am now. My Sincere gratitude to Alambana Foundation. Alambana is a great source of help to aspiring students. The foundation helped me when I faced financial difficulty in joining the college. Not only financial support, it gave hope on future and moral support too.

Supported by Alambana since 4 years i.e., from my 1st year MBBS, regarding books and hostel fee. Financial background of my family is average. My father's job is the only source of income for my brother and my studies. Support given for me is very useful for my studies and is also useful for my family.
